Casa de Oro Alliance Accomplishment Highlights
- Wrapped Utility Boxes with nature-inspired graphics to beautify the Campo Road Corridor using private donations and a grant from the County of San Diego for permits.
- Installed light pole banners and planter pots along Campo Road through a grant from the County of San Diego.
- Established monthly Campo Road cleanups as well as semiannual community cleanups with Monte Vista High School students and quarterly community cleanups with I Love A Clean San Diego.
- Re-landscaped the properties at the Auto Zone sidewalk plaza and in front of the Shell Gas Station.
- Continue to collaborate with the La Mesa Spring Valley School District, District 4 County Supervisor, San Diego County Library, and Friends of Casa de Oro Library regarding the plans to build a new 11,000 square foot branch library with a2,000 square foot community room in Casa de Oro in 2025-2026.
- Received a County of San Diego Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant to install ornamental planters and light pole banners along Campo Road in 2022; volunteers and private donations ensure the maintenance of the planters
- Received grants from the County of San Diego, Union Bank, and Southwestern College to support businesses with marketing advice and small & minority owned business guidance in 2022 and 2023.
- Pushed for MTS to install bus stop shelters on Campo Road to encourage and make it more comfortable for passengers to use public transit.
- Advocated for EDCO to place sidewalk trash cans in strategic locations along Campo Road and to empty the trash regularly.
- Partnered with the county to give community input on the funded SANDAG grant Specific Plan and design guidelines for Casa de Oro, approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2023.
- Produced a valuable Business Guidebook containing important resources and information for local businesses.
- Created a high-profile Advisory Council composed of property and business owners, and community leaders to support the CDOA Board of Directors.
- We collaborate with other like-minded community-based organizations (Grossmont Mt-Helix Improvement Association, Spring Valley Community Alliance, Friends of the Casa de Oro Library) to expand our impact.
- Advocated for the closure of the proliferation of illegal marijuana dispensaries by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
- Established a Community in Harmony vision to bring the community together at events and gatherings to get to know one another, to enliven the community with public art and murals, and to encourage businesses to bring musical & entertaining performances to Casa De Oro.
- Launched a Giving Tuesday and Year-End Fundraising Campaign in 2023 to create a donor base to cover the Alliance’s operating budget of $3,000 and raise additional funds for maintaining the utility box wraps and light pole banners and permits required for larger community events.
